Window Casing Gaps
I am rehabbing a building that i just bought and the previous owner hastily installed new casing around the windows such that there are pretty big gaps between the outside edges of the casing and the drywall.. Remove the trim gently and attempt to reinstall it so the angled cuts match perfectly. if this does not work, your only choice may be replacement. take special care to make accurate cuts to ensure the pieces fit flush and are the correct length. a gap in trim molding can be unsightly.. The trim used to cover gaps where the sheet rock meets windows and doors is called casing, i.e. the window casing. where this same drywall meets the flooring whether it's wood, carpeting or tile, there is also a gap which needs to be covered and that trim at the floor is called baseboard..
Quick tip for closing a gap in a door frame, after install this door in this older building i noticed it had a bit of space / crack in the molding, this quick fix worked great in hiding that eye sore.. That is the common cure...another option may be to rip strips of wood to the thickness you need and nail them in between the trim and the jamb...with very small brads you can also nail the strips to the backside of the trim, and then install the trim to the door.... F) side casing covers gap between side of window frame and wall. g) backband molding adds depth and width to outside edges of casing. l-shaped to fit neatly over corners. h) inside stop holds sash in window opening. removing stops allows sash to be taken out for repair..
